Kala Vatanyachi Amti



Ingredients

Kala Vatana (Dried black peas) - 1 cup
Batata - 1 small (boiled and mashed) **
Onion - 3 small / 1 big
Kothmir/ Coriander leaves - one bunch
Green Chillies - 2/3 (depending on spice)
Garlic pods - 4 small / 2 big
Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp
GSB masala - 1/2 tsp
Coconut grated - 2 tbsp.
Dalchini/ Cinnamon  - 1 inch piece
Salt
Oil - 2 tbsp.

Preparation:  a) Soak the peas overnight. Can also drain and keep for sprouting. Next day pressure  
                         cook the peas and keep ready.

                     b) Finely chop the onions

                     c) Make a paste of part onion , coconut ,coriander, green chillies, garlic.

Method
1)  In a pan add oil , heat and put dalchini.  After that finely chopped onion. Fry till translucent.

2) Then add the paste and fry for some time (aprrox 5 min). Also add 1 tbsp. grated coconut.

3) Add garam masala and GSB masala. Mix well . 

4)  Add the boiled kala vatana and water and adjust consistency. Add salt and bring to boil.

5)  Garnish with coconut and kothmir.

Notes
**In case the spice is more you can add boiled potato and balance the dish.  Also can add small cut potato to the dish

I love Kala Vatana...I generally add kokum too when I am making it. What is GSB masala?
Shd definitely try adding kokum next time. GSB masala is mix of dhania , jeera , rai, kala miri, red chiili...shall post recipe with measurements.
