A staple in every Maharashtrian household. Breakfast or as evening snack , sometimes even a quick version when unannounced guest walk in... Be it for whatever reason this dish fills your mind and tummy.
There are many variations to this as well.
Kanda pohe , kanda batata pohe , kanda mutter pohe , Dhadpe pohe , Tamarind poha (South Indian version). Additions of groundnut fried can also be done , besides sev , theekha seva..the variations are many to add on to the taste.
Recipe is simple includes onion and potatoes.
Ingredients
Poha - 1/4 kg - 2 medium cups
Onions /Kanda - 2 big (finely chopped)
Potatoes - 1 big ( boiled and medium chopped)
Tumeric powder - 1/2 tsp
For vaghar / tadka
Green chillies - 5 (finely chopped or just slit)
Oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 7/8
For garnishing
Coconut scrapped - 2 tbsp
Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
Peanuts - 2 tbsp
Lime slices
METHOD
1) In a pan add oil and tadka items. Let the mustard seeds splutter.
2) Add onion and fry till translucent. Then add boiled potatoes. You can also opt to add raw potatoes and cook it in the pan by adding some water.
3) Add washed and drained poha. Put salt , turmeric and mix well. Let it cook for 5 minutes
4) Finally garnish with peanut , coconut and kothmir.
