This dal is inspired from the Andhra kitchens. I have added tomato in place of tamarind. Also this is normally made with only toor dal.
Ingredients
Moong dal & toor dal - 1 cup
Gongura / Red sorrel leaves / ambade - 1 small bunch
Onion - 1 medium
Tomato - 1 small
Tumeric powder -1 tsp
Methi seeds - 1 tsp
Cloves - 3
Oil - 2 tbsp
For tadka
Ghee - 1 tsp
Jeera - 1/2 tsp
Garlic cloves - 3 cloves crushed
Dry red chillies - 2
Method
1) Wash, soak the dal for 15-20 minutes.
2) Pressure cook the dal with tumeric powder and keep.
3) To prepare the leaves first pluck off without any stem. Wash well and roughly chop and keep ready.
4) In a pan add oil heat, then methi seeds. Then add onions fry till translucent. Then tomatoes and fry till soft.
5) Add red sorrel leaves , stir in for a minute, add water and let it cook well.
6) Mix the dal, salt and water to adjust thickness. Let this boil well. Cook till this whole mixture gets together and becomes a good dal.
7) In a small kadai make the tadka and put on the dal. Serve hot with rice.
