Batatyachi khari / khadkhadla / Garlic potatoes

A dish I learnt from my mother-in-law. She makes this dish when we are so bored of eating very heavy dishes and love to eat this with bread and rice. Serve with up with some wafers on the side or sliced onions and meal is ready in some time.

An online research tells me it a parathe prabhu recipe made with prawns called khadkhadla. This is the veg version with potatoes.

A Jewel from my MILs kitchen. Proud to have learnt from her. Has helped me on many a occasion when I would rush in from office and not have strength to cook up a feast or days when the need to eat something spicy yet to cook easy. With a few ingredients this can be ready.

Ingredients

Potatoes - 5 (peeled and cut in small cubes)
Garlic pods - 15 to 20 crushed to paste
Red chillies powder - 1 tsp
Prabhu sambar powder - 2 tsp
Tumeric powder - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil - 2-3 tbsp

Method

1) In a pan add oil and garlic crushed. Lets this fry well on low flame.

2) Add potatoes and fry for 5 minutes.

3) In the meanwhile add the masalas, tumeric powder and salt.

4) Fry all together for some time. Then add water and let it cook well.

5) It will form a nice light gravy. Some cooked potatoes can be crushed also.

6) Finally add lots of coriander leaves.

7) Serve hot with slices of bread or laadi pav or rice topped with ghee(clarified butter)
