I have tasted kabuli chana aloo biryani at a local restaurant here in Mumbai. Loved the play of flavours.
To experiment I tried the same with kala chana a oft used ingredient in Maharashtrian cuisine. Also used a paste which I use in Maharashtrian gravies. .. yummy fusion
Ingredients
Rice - 1cup
Sprout chana - 1 cup
Potato - 1 boiled and cubed
Onions -3 finely chopped
Everest Shahi pulav masala - 1 tbsp
Oil - 3/4 tbsp
Cloves - 3
Cinnamon- 1'
Tej patta/Bayleaf - 1
Chutney /Paste
Coriander leaves- 1/2 cup
Green chillies -4/5
Mint - a few sprigs
Garlic -4/5 cloves
Soaked dry red chillies - 4/5
Jeera - 1 tsp
Ginger - 1" piece
Salt
Method
1) Pre boil the rice till three fourth done and keep ready
2) In a pan add oil, cloves, cinnamon,bayleaf. Then onions , salt and fry till translucent.
3) Then add the paste, fry for some time till raw smell goes.
4) Add potatoes, chana and cook with paste.
5) Mix in the pre boiled rice and mix lightly but well.
6) Keep on low flame for 7-8 minutes.
7) Serve with plain curd or garlic-mint curd or raita.
