Kurmura chivda

Puffed rice is called murmura or kurmura. Chivda from this turns out super delicious and is very light to eat.

This is normally made in my household for diwali.

Ingredients :

Puffed rice - 9 cups
Oil  5 tablespoons (incl 2 to fry peanuts)
Asafoetida  a big pinch
Mustard seeds  1tsp
Turmeric powder  1 & 1/2 tsp
Green chillies,spilt into small pieces - 5
Curry leaves  10-15
Roasted chana dal (dalia)  1/2 cup
Coriander powder - 2 tsp
Fennel seeds(badishep) - 2 tbsp
Red chilli powder - 1 tbsp (optional)
Sugar - 7-8 tsp powdered
Salt  to taste
Peanuts (with skin) - 1/2 cup

 Method :

1) Roast puffed rice separately if not crisp. You can also keep in the sun and make it crisp or a minute in the microwave.  It has to be nice and crispy otherwise the chivda will become chewy.

2) Heat oil in a kadai or a big vessel. Add asafoetida, mustard seeds.

3) When the mustard seeds crackle add green chillies and curry leaves and saute till the curry leaves become crisp.

5) Add tumeric powder and mix well

6) Meanwhile in another pan add oil and fry the peanuts till golden brown color.
