Poha upma

This dish is made in Karnataka using a coarse powder of thick poha (jada poha)

I got the recipe from a friend who introduced me to this. Very delicious option. I added a few more ingredients as per my choice.

Ingredients

1 cup thick poha / Flattened rice
Onion - 1 finely chopped
Boiled potato - 1 ( made in cubes)
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Roasted groundnut powder (coarse) - 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Chana dal - 1 tsp
Udit dal - 1/2 tsp
Green chillies - 3
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Oil - 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Sugar - 1 tsp (optional)
Coriander leaves for garnish

Method:

1. First coarsely grind poha (flattened rice) in a mixer. Just use one or two pulse as you need a coarse powder .
2) Then put this in a colander and give this a wash(like you would to make poha) and drain and keep it for about 10 minutes. Check to ensure it does not become mushy.
3) In a pan heat oil and add chana dal, udit dal when it becomes golden add mustard seeds. Add curry leaves.
4) Add onions and fry till translucent, then potatoes ,soaked poha, salt, sugar & mix well. Cook for 5 minutes so all flavours are mixed well.
5) Garnish with coriander  leaves and serve hot
