Kala vatanyachi usal
Black peas - 1 cup (soaked for 10 hours or overnight)
Potato - 1 optional
Onion - 1 finely chopped...
Coconut - 1 cup
Garlic cloves- 5/7 cloves (crushed)
Coriander seeds - 2 tbsp
Black pepper - 10/12 pieces
Cloves - 4/5 pieces
Fennel seeds ( badishep) - 1 tsp
Oil - 4 tbsp
Garam masala - 1 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Haldi
Salt
Coriander ..for garnish


1) Pressure cook the peas and potato for 4/5 whistles.
2) In a pan add 1 tbsp oil add coriander seeds , black pepper , cloves & badishep. Fry for a minute.
3) Add garlic and half of the onion. Fry till onion is soft
4) Add the coconut. Fry till it is well roasted. . (Reddish brown). Be careful not to burn the coconut
5) Cool and grind it into a fine paste by adding 2 tsp cooked peas and water.
6) In the same pan put oil add onion. Fry for 2 minutes. Add ground paste and water and cook for 5 minutes.
7) Add peas & potato to the mix , add water , salt , haldi , red chilli powder, garam masala. Cook for a few minutes till all mixes well.
8) Serve hot garnished with coriander.
