Panchmel Dal


Panchmel dal (five dals) is a Rajashthani dal which is a no onion - no garlic dal. So im sure this wl attract a lot of members who dont eat onion /garlic ,yet like delicious dals.


Ingredients

1 cup mixed dal - Tuvar , moong , masoor , urad , chana dal. (I used lesser quantities of urad and chana dal)

1 Tomato finely chopped

2 " ginger

2 green chillies 

2 dry red chillies

3 elachi pods

2 cloves

1" cinnamon 

Jeera - 1 tsp

Hing - 1 tsp.(asafoetida)


Method

1) Pressure cook the dals after washing and soaking for half to one hour.


2) In a pan add ghee (2 tbsp) add jeera , cloves , cinnamon,  elaichi, dry red chilli. 

Then add the tomatoes , ginger , green chillies.


3) Put tumeric powder , hing and let all cook it tomato gets mushy. 


4) At this stage I added a few raw groundnuts to cook as well.


5) Lastly spoon mash the dal a bit and add to the pan along with sugar and salt.


6) Let it simmer for about 10 minutes.  U can add water if it gets too thick.  


Garnish with coriander leaves and serve . This dal can be eaten with rice or puri or chapati.
