Peanuts sundal

Sundal or chundal is a traditional south Indian dish prepared for naivedyam/prasadam for poojas especially during navratri. It is very tasty and very nutritious too. It is prepared using different legumes moong, black chana, kabuli chana, white peas, red chowli, peanuts, chana dal. It is distributed to all people who come home for vethapakku (haldi kumkum).  Do follow my blog to get a recipe each day of the different sundals and easy method of preparation. 

Ingredients for peanuts sundal

Raw peanuts -1 cup

Dessicated / fresh coconut - 2 tbsp


For tadka

Oil -1 tbsp

Mustard seeds -1/2tsp

Udit dal -1/2 tsp

Red chilli -1

Curry leaves -1 sprig

Asafoetida a pinch


Masalas used

Red chilli powder - 3/4  tsp

Coriander powder - 3/4 tsp

Amchur powder optional

Salt to taste


Method

1) Soak the peanuts for about half an hour. Add a pinch of salt and pressure cook it for three whistles on medium flame. Let the pressure go , then drain and keep the peanuts to cool

2) In a small pan add oil , then mustard seeds and udit dal . When it splutters add the red chilli and curry leaves crushed with hand.

3) Add the peanuts along with masalas and salt to taste. Mix well and let it remain for a minute.

4) Put coconut and give a final mix. Do naivedyam(offer to the goddess) and serve hot.
